How
to Open a file
- In your Microsoft
Office program, click File, and then click Open.
- In the Look in
list, click the drive, folder, or Internet location that contains the file
you want to open.
- In the folder list,
locate and open the folder that contains the file.
- Click the file, and
then click Open.
Open a file as a copy
- In your Office program,
click File, and then click Open.
- In the Look in
list, click the drive, folder, or Internet location that contains the file
you want to open.
- In the folder list,
locate and open the folder that contains the file.
- Select the file you
want to open a copy of. Click the arrow next to the Open button,
and then click Open as Copy.
Note When
you open a file as a copy, a new copy of the file is created in the folder that
contains the original file.
Open a file as read-only
- In your Office
program, click File, and then click Open.
- In the Look in
list, click the drive, folder, or Internet location that contains the file
you want to open.
- In the folder list,
locate and open the folder that contains the file.
- Select the file you
want to open a copy of. Click the arrow next to the Open button,
and then click Open Read-Only.
Tips
- You can create a
shortcut to a folder on a network file server or Web server, use My
Network Places.
- The Getting
Started task pane (task
pane: A window within an Office application that provides commonly used
commands. Its location and small size allow you to use these commands
while still working on your files.) displays a list of the
last few files that you most recently opened. Click on the file name to
open it.
- The My Recent
Documents folder in the Open dialog lists the previous files
and folders that you have opened.
