Computer - Application: Knowing the application

A program or application: This is not the first time you are hearing this name you have been hearing people saying program or application, using a program, installing an application, or an app, you may have come across this words several times, but what exactly does this program or application mean? 

What is application?

Any kind of program software used to complete a specific function or task is called an Application. Mobile devices have their own Apps called mobile apps. 

All kinds of computers have applications called desktop applications or application program, computer application used by users to test their capability in learning how to use word processor, spreadsheet, PageMaker, email programs, gaming, etc. 

Try opening any of the above application, notice the application runs in the operating system until when it is close, that is an application. 

Opening more than single application at a time is known as Multi-tasking system, while running single program is called single tasking.

Application is usually referred to an App. Simple application that can be downloaded inexpensively or for free without paying. There are many other apps that are also available for mobile devices and TVs too.

Desktop applications

Desktop applications are categorized as follows: The fuller featured like MS Word (Microsoft Word), gaming, spreadsheet, database application, PageMaker, etc. while others may only do one or two things like a clock or calendar app. The few types of application you might want to try are listed below.

• Word processors

A word processor application allows you to create multiple tasks like type a letter, design a flyer, design a resume, forms and create many other types of documents. The Microsoft word is the most well-known word processor.

 

• Web browsers 

Web browser is a powerful tool that is used to access the internet, it is always known as web browser. Computers mostly come with a preinstalled browser, but you can also download a different one if you prefer. Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome, are examples of browsers.

• Media players

If you want to listen to music or MP3s or even watch movies, you have to use this one of this apps. Itunes and Windows Media Player are some of popular media players.

• Games

The many different types of games that you can play and enjoy on your computer are games like Halo for action games, Solitaire. 
Action games require a lot of computing power, so they may not work unless you have a newer computer. try buying a computer with much more hard disk space, processor and RAM speed too.

Desktop and laptop computers are not the only devices that can run applications. Mobile phones or devices also use apps. You can download apps for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

Instagram

Use Instagram to quickly share photos with your friends and family. It is affordable and available for Android and iOS.

• Gmail App 

You can use the Gmail app to easily view and send emails from your mobile device. It is affordable and available for Android and iOS devices.

• Duolingo 

You can use this Duolingo App to learn new languages with a combination of quizzes, games, and other activities. It is also affordable and available      for Android and iOS.

Digital electronic Computers and mobile device comes with built in applications, anti virus, web browser and media players are some of the example of built-in applications.

However, you can also purchase and install new apps to add more functionality to suit your needs.
