you launch CorelDRAW, the application window opens containing a drawing window.
The rectangle in the center of the drawing window is the drawing page where you

Microsoft Office word is called word, Winword, sometimes even Word Processor. Word processing: This refers to the
usage of computer to either produce text or affect changes on already produced
text. The text used here could be in form of documents such as letters, reports, memos and books. It also has to do with
the arrangement of text in a form that can be used at anytime.

Locate the Start Menu at the
bottom left of your screen.

Click on the start Menu.

FEATURES OR CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPUTER
By features or characteristics of
computer here we refer to certain peculiarities among computer. The following
are the features of the today’s computers.
i.
Accuracy: Computers are very accurate, errors only occur if there is an
error in hardware, software or data. When errors occur, it is usually because
of some human error since computers can only do what they are programmed to do
thus, the output from a computer is always accurate and dependable when both
the input data and the processing program are correct.
ii.
Storage Capability: Computers have very large memory of storage
capability. Some computers can store billions of characters in small magnetic
materials of the size of a mobile handset. New materials like CD-ROM and high
capacity hard disks makes it possible for computers to keep large data now and
make it as well possible to transfer large data with ease.
iii.
Speed: The speed of computer is measured in megahertz (MHz), that is
millions of cycle per second. This makes it possible for it to process at
faster rate. This is necessary for producing weather forecasts, performing
scientific research and even producing thousand of bills for utility companies.
iv.
Versatile: One of the characterisics of computer is versatility.
Computer can be used for different jobs. As a result, computer usage fit
into any organization such as schools, hospital, banks etc.

Continuous Working: Computer can work continuously for a long
period without much maintenance.

INPUT UNIT: This
comprises of keyboard, mouse and scanner

The keyboard is a tool that is used for
typing like a typewriter. Of course, it has more functions than the typewriter.
Different keys on the keyboard perform varying functions and include;

Alphanumeric Keys
As the name implies,
alpha refers to alphabet and numeric refers to number. Alphanumeric contains
both alphabet and numbers. Alphabet are A-Z, and numbers 0-9. apart from
alphabet and numbers other keys are associated with these type of keys and
include; Shit, Enter, Space, Caps lock, Tab Back space keys.
Functions Keys
These are additional
keys on the key board for special usd under operating system and application
programs. The keys contained here are F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, F10,
F11, and F12.
Numeric Keys
Found at the right
hand side of the keyboard, the numeric keys are numbered 0-9 and are used when
input are in their numeric form.
Control Keys
Control keys do not
have a specific place on the keyboard. They are found on the keyboard and
include; Insert, delete, end, Esc, Print Screen, Scroll Lock, Pause, Home, Page
Up, Page Down, Control, Alt, and Num Lock.
Cursor Keys
Also known as the
arrow keys the cursor keys help moving the cursor up, down, left and right side
on the screen during operation...
The Two Major Components of a Computer System
The two major component of a computer system are;
HARDWARE
SOFTWARE
These component are
described below.
- Hardware: The hardware of a computer are those parts of a computer that can be seen physically. They can be touched, handled etc. these parts were discussed earlier and include motherboard, monitor, CPU etc. these parts are sometimes called the peripherals.
- Software: These are set of instructions that are supplied to the computer to aid perform it functions. There are two types of software, system software and application software.

This CPU is responsible for arithmetic calculations while the APU for Graphic manipulations. This CPU and APU are merge into the Accelerated Processing Unit APU which are attached to the motherboard in slim laptops.

is set of instructions that are sent to computer to perform functions. The
instructions herein are series of assignment to be executed by the computer in

How the keys are organized
The keys on your keyboard can be divided into several
groups based on function:
§ Typing (alphanumeric)
keys. These
keys include the same letter, number, punctuation, and symbol keys found on a
traditional typewriter.
§ Control keys. These keys are used alone or in combination with other
keys to perform certain actions. The most frequently used control keys are
Ctrl, Alt, the Windows logo
key , and Esc.
§ Function keys. The function keys are used to perform specific tasks.
They are labeled as F1, F2, F3, and so on, up to F12. The functionality of
these keys differs from program to program.
§ Navigation keys. These keys are used for moving around in documents or
webpages and editing text. They include the arrow keys, Home, End, Page Up,
Page Down, Delete, and Insert.
§ Numeric keypad. The numeric keypad is handy for entering numbers quickly.
The keys are grouped together in a block like a conventional calculator or
adding machine.

How to creat a text
Typing text
Whenever you need to type something in a program, e‑mail
message, or text box, you'll see a blinking vertical line ( I ). That's the cursor,
also called the insertion point. It shows where the text that you type
will begin. You can move the cursor by clicking in the desired location with
the mouse, or by using the navigation keys. In addition to letters, numerals,
punctuation marks, and symbols, the typing keys also include Shift, Caps Lock,
Tab, Enter, the Spacebar, and Backspace.

Press Shift in combination with a letter to type an uppercase letter. Press Shift in combination with another key to
type the symbol shown on the upper part of that key.
Caps
Lock Press Caps Lock once to type all
letters as uppercase. Press Caps Lock again to turn this function off. Your
keyboard might have a light indicating whether Caps Lock is on.
Tab Press Tab to move the cursor several spaces forward. You can also press Tab to
move to the next text box on a form.
Enter
Press Enter to move the cursor to the beginning of the next line. In a dialog box, press Enter to select the
highlighted button.
Spacebar
Press the Spacebar to move the cursor one space forward.
Backspace
Press Backspace to delete the character before the cursor, or the selected
text.
